1. It is recommended that the patient drinks a pint of water before getting the sample in order to collect an adequate urine volume (20 to 30 mL).
Before the collection of urine is due to perform a rectal examination as described below:

You must apply enough pressure on the prostate to contract the surface about 1 cm from base to apex and from the sideline toward the midline of each lobe. Pressuring three times in each lobe. It attempts to give a prostate massage.
2. After digital rectal examination, first void urine (between 20 to 30 mL of urine)should be collected in a glass or jar of urine properly labeled. The specimen collection must be done within 3 hours of digital rectal examination. The urine collection container must be sterile and without preservatives. The minimum amount of urine that must provide the patient must be at least 5 mL of urine to perform the analysis.
3. If the urine samples are not immediately transferred to the transport tube, they should be kept between 2 to 8 ° C. The urine collected must be transferred to the transport tube within four hours after collection. It requires to close the urine jar and invert it five times to resuspend cells and homogenize the contents. Then 2.5 mL of urine must be transferred to each of the two transport tubes. The level of urine should be between the black fill lines marked on the label of the tube (forming a window).
4. The tube must be cover and invert t five times to mix and homogenize the sample. Finally the samples must be labeled and sent to the laboratory.
