COAGULATION FACTOR V GENE (G1691A MUTATION), BLOOD
Method:
Real Time PCR.
Mounting:
Delivery period:11
Sample:
3 mL Total blood Tripotassium EDTA (2-8 ºC - Refrigerate)
Request form:
Clinical information required.
Sample extraction:
Do not send specimens with heparin because they inhibit the polymerase of PCR.
Reference V.:

R.Values:
Although Factor V Leiden related thrombophilia has an autosomal dominant inheritance, clinical expression is highly variable. Therefore, three groups of patients were distinguished: a first large group of individuals who never present a thrombotic event, a second majority group characterized by having the first thrombotic event in adulthood and a third minority group with recurrent thromboembolism before 30 years.

R.Values:
In healthy individuals after administration of a small evening dose of dexamethasone, at 8 am of the following day a maximum inhibition of cortisol is observed. In patients with Cushing's syndrome this effect is not observed.
A cortisol concentration in serum above 50 nmol/L provides a sensibility in diagnostic of Cushing's syndrome very close to a 100%. The method of analysis used for the determination has little influence on this value.
This test has between 10% to 15% false positives which might be due to:
a) enzyme inducer treatment (phenytoin, phenobarbital, rifampicin), b) estrogen or tamoxifen treatment, and c) severe acute illness, alcoholism, major depression, etc. The false negative response rate is 2%.
